Discussions are ongoing with Pihl (UK) ltd to continue to support the wheelchair event at Run Balmoral 10 and an announcement will be made at the launch of Run Balmoral on Wednesday 4th November 2009.
The inaugrual 10K wheelchair race took place in 2008. This invitational elite wheelchair athletes event is one of very few of its kind in the UK. Sponsored by PIHL (UK) Ltd the field of athletes will comprise a field of some of the UK’s best wheelchair athletes. This year’s competitors were:
- Jason Gill, England
- Richie Powell, Wales
- Gordon Smith, Scotland
- Steve Williamson, England
In 2009 this event received SportsMatch funding for a 5k wheelchair event to take place alongside the 10k race for local up and coming wheelchair athletes, see results below.
10k race Balmoral 08
The 09 results for the 10k wheelchair races were:
- 1st Jason Gill 30:24
- 2nd Richie Powell 30:28
- 3rd Steve Williamson 32:24
- 4th Gordon Smith 42:26
And for the 5k race were:
- 1st Jade Watson 24:53
- 2nd Jonathan Fisher 25:16
- 3rd Megan Dawson-Farrell 27:39
